When Amos turned his attention to Israel, he did not just focus on personal sins, but also called for repentance for the sins of the nation: injustice, immorality and idolatry. Israel valued objects more than people and mistreated people who were made in God's image. The priests were lending money at interest and falling asleep at the altar. People put pressure on the Nazarites to break their vows of devotion to God.
The Scriptures are clear: There will be a day of ultimate justice. As we should be devoted to God, we should be devoted to one spouse or to singleness. Idolatry and immorality are often interchanged in the Scriptures and often go together. We should be faithful and devoted to Him.
